Dwyane Wade Revives Miami Heat, Reputation in NBA Finals Game 4 Outburst - Bleacher Report

Welcome back, Dwyane Wade.

LeBron James missed you. So did Chris Bosh. So did the rest of the Miami Heat, for that matter.

The San Antonio Spurs certainly didn't'not after watching Wade have his way with them from tip to buzzer in Game 4 of the 2013 NBA Finals.

Wade was aggressive on both ends of the floor for a full 40 minutes to help the Heat secure a crucial 109-93 win Thursday night. He deflected passes, challenged shots at the rim, crashed the boards, slashed the rim, and dashed about for easy buckets and open jumpers. By the end of the night, Wade had piled up32 points (on 14-of-25 from the field), six rebounds, four assists, a career playoff-high six steals, and a block.

It was a line not seen since Wade was still at Marquette, and one only replicated four times in Finals history (also via ESPN Stats & Info):

He looked like anything but the timid, tired, injured Wade who'd hobbled through most of these playoffs. Rather than shrinking from the stage after picking up his fourth foul early in the third, Wade came through with 15 points thereafter on all manner of makes.

And didn't notch another infraction, either. The question is, where had this Dwyane Wade been hiding?

The answer? Somewhere under his thrice-bruised, ever-shifting right knee cap...probably. Wade has been bothered by a bum knee since early March, when he suffered a bump against the Orlando Magic.

The game before that'wherein Dwyane tallied 32 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists, and one steal in a 16-point stomping of the Minnesota Timberwolves'also doubled as Wade's last 30-point outburst before Game 4.

Go figure. How Wade managed to get himself back on track at the AT&T Center on a Thursday night in mid-June is anybody's guess. Maybe Tim Grover, Wade's trainer and consultant to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, flew into San Antonio to get Dwyane hyped up (as he did in last year's finals). Maybe Wade called in a favor from the Lord of Light during the 48 hours after the Game 3 thrashing.

Or, maybe decided it was time to be the Wade of Old, rather than just an Old Wade. As a struggling Shane Battier noted after the game (via Turner Sports' Rachel Nichols):

LeBron echoed those sentiments at his postgame presser (via Howard Beck of The New York Times):

Whatever the case, the Heat got what they needed. Now, instead of facing down a 3-1 series deficit that no team has ever overcome in the NBA Finals, Miami can instead look forward to a clean slate heading into Game 5 and at least one more meeting with San Antonio in South Beach.

And, hopefully, some more of this:

And this:

And a bit of this:

And less of this from Wade:

That's the trouble with D-Wade these days, though. He can be great one day and grizzly the next, or vice versa. Such is the status quo for a 31-year-old combo guard who relies so heavily on fearlessness (and bad knees) to compensate for an inconsistent and distance-limited jump shot.

When he's off, he's way off, leaving LeBron James to shoulder so much of the burden for the Heat, as has been the case for weeks, if not months. But when he's on, there's no stopping Miami.

And the bigger the moment, the more likely Wade is to be on. Remember, it was Wade whose superb three-game stretch during the 2012 playoffs lifted the Heat out of a 2-1 conference finals hole against the Indiana Pacers and propelled them to the Larry O'Brien Trophy past the Oklahoma City Thunder. With LeBron's help, of course.

The same was true against the Spurs, as James poured in a game-high 33 points to go along with 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. It was a tandem effort of the sort not seen since in the finals since a certain, drama-inclined duo shared the floor more than a decade ago (again, via ESPN Stats & Info...because, who else, really?):

Oh, and Chris Bosh wasn't too shabby, either. The man whose middle name is Wesson (no joke) was finally firing away from the mid-range on the way to a 20-point, 13-board evening.

But as great as LeBron and Bosh were in Game 4, they wouldn't be here without Dwyane Wade. He was the one that made Miami a free-agent destination for reasons beyond the exciting nightlife and beautiful...ummm...beaches.

He was the former NBA Finals MVP whose brilliance had made the Heat an exciting, competitive basketball outfit long before the Big Three were counting rings at a misguided coronation preview. He was the one who served as the precious metal backing up the currency on which Pat Riley traded to attract James and Bosh during the blockbuster summer of 2010.

Which Dwyane Wade will show up for Game 5?Which Dwyane Wade will show up for Game 5?
  • The Wade of Old (good)
  • Old Wade (bad)
  • Total votes: 6,811

In that sense, then, Wade's work had already been done. He'd already relinquished his crown as Miami's most important player to James. He'd already seen his personal bar drop. With mysterious no-show after no-show,his skating by was getting to a point where something needed to be done.

But resting on laurels isn't something that Wade does. Settling, be it for secondary roles or pull-up jumpers, has never been D-Wade's modus operandi. At this point, there's not much Wade can do physically to improve his physical condition until the start of a (hopefully) restful offseason.

That doesn't mean Wade's helpless, though, nor has it ever. As Battier noted (again, via Rachel Nichols), Dwyane can still control how he responds to the pain:

How much more Wade can play to the level he did in Game 4 is anybody's best guess, though as Grantland's Zach Lowe noted, his excellence makes all the difference for Miami:

And so, the Heat will prepare for Game 5 on Father's Day with a simple greeting for the man who, in essence, gave birth to what may be the NBA's last "super-team."

Welcome back, Wade. Won't you stay a spell? Miami needs you.

World of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition open beta in 'relatively near future' - Joystiq

World of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition will enter open beta in the "relatively near future," Wargaming General Manager Denny Thorley said during a demo at E3. The beta will begin in North America and Canada, and roll out to other countries later on. Beta registration is open now at the game's website.

The beta will likely include four maps and a majority of the full game's 60 total tanks at first, Thorley said.

World of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition won't feature cross-play between PC and console. It supports online multiplayer for up to 30 players ' 15 vs. 15 ' with no single-player or local multiplayer content at launch. Wargaming may add single-player tutorials or other comparable content in the future.

It's free-to-play for Xbox Live Gold members, and all other Live users will get a free seven-day trial. The monetization strategy on XBLA will be slightly different than its PC predecessor, though Thorley said he couldn't go into detail about specific packages.

"I think you're going to find some similarities," Thorley said. "There are areas that may be slightly different."

The major differences between the PC and Xbox 360 versions of World of Tanks will be the control scheme ' surprise, the console edition uses a controller ' and some user interface tweaks to better suit a couch perspective.

Questions Over Deadly Building Collapse - ABC News

Philadelphia officials are facing questions over whether the building collapse that killed six people on Wednesday could have been prevented.

Mayor Michael Nutter and the city's commissioner of licenses and inspections, Carlton Williams, said today that they did not follow up on complaints about the working conditions at the Center City demolition site where a four-story building toppled over Wednesday.

City officials said that a routine inspection had found no violations at the property before demolition began. Williams said that inspectors had visited an adjoining property in May after complaints were lodged, but they found no violations and did not return to the Market Street site again before Wednesday.

"No subsequent inspection occurred to indicate there was any unsafe conditions," Williams said. "We did not follow up and we are definitely looking into that."

Nutter promised a "wide-ranging inspection" into how and why the building collapsed.

"We are 24 hours into the incident, and we have a lot of work to do into why it happened and how did it happen, and going forward how to prevent it from happening anywhere else in the city," Nutter said today.

Nutter and Williams made their statements in response to questions from reporters about a slew of complaints and 311 calls that had reportedly been made to the city about the unsafe conditions at the site in the weeks leading up to the collapse.

At least 20 people were caught in falling debris when the building collapsed Wednesday around 10:45 a.m. An outer wall of the building that was being demolished fell outward and onto a two-story building next door that housed a Salvation Army Thrift Shop, according to city officials.

Fourteen individuals were treated for injuries, most of which were minor, according to hospital officials. Six individuals had already died by the time rescuers found them in the rubble.

See the Philadelphia Building When it Collapsed Wednesday

Two construction workers that were doing work on nearby buildings told the Philadelphia Inquirer today that they watched the demolition in disbelief because of the unsafe practices of the demolition workers.

"Never in all my years have I ever, ever, ever seen this," Steve Cramer told the paper. "It was just a total disregard for safety. We [predicted] this last week. I can't believe they allowed the thrift store to be open."

Joe Hauser, another worker, echoed Cramer's concerns, saying that he was planning on saying something to the workers on the very day of the collapse.

"I said, 'That's it, at lunch I'm going to go over there and say something, I have to, I can't go with this no more,'" Hauser told the paper.

On Wednesday, Williams and Nutter said that the building had up-to-date permits for the demolition, noting that both the owner and construction company had their paperwork in order.

The property's owner, STB Investments of New York City, released a statement Wednesday expressing sympathy for the victims.

Richard Basciano, an owner of the company, owned many properties in Philadelphia and New York and was once dubbed "the undisputed king of Times Square porn" in New York newspapers for his ownership of adult businesses.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by this tragic event. Please know that we are committed to working with the City of Philadelphia and other authorities to determine what happened today," the statement read.

Nutter said that the search would continue today, and that the city would not release names of the dead until the end of the day.

Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee to retire - Columbus Dispatch

By Encarnacion Pyle

The Columbus Dispatch Tuesday June 4, 2013 11:42 PM

Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee said this afternoon that he plans to retire on July 1, an announcement which followed the latest in a series of verbal gaffes that he said were meant as harmless jokes but ended up embarrassing the university.

>> Update: Gee has regrets, but says gaffes didn't cause him to retire as Ohio State president

The two-time Ohio State president made his announcement this afternoon in an email to students, faculty and staff.

'Without question, the university has achieved remarkable success, and it has been my honor and calling to lead it,' Gee's email says. 'Ohio State is well-positioned for the future. I love this university, and my relationship with it will continue.'

Gee, 69, has served as Ohio State's president for two terms, from 1990 to 97 and 2007 to now.

OSU Provost Joseph A. Alutto has agreed to serve as interim president until the Ohio State board of trustees can find a replacement. Alutto previously served as interim president in 2007.

>> Video: Students respond to Gee's announcement

Gee insisted that he wasn't retiring because he made jokes about Catholics, other schools and a rival athletic conference during a December speech.

"This isn't about those statements," he said during a phone call with reporters this afternoon. "I have apologized for those remarks and feel incredibly sorry, but I have moved on."

Instead, he characterized his decision to leave OSU as a celebration of the 33 years, almost half his life, that he has been a university president,

He added that he is "quirky as hell" and doesn't do things like most people, even cracking that "I only have a month to ruin the university."

However, Gee conceded that his discussions with his family were spurred by the "tumultuous times." Gee said he talked about his future and what he should do while on a Disney Cruise with his daughter and her family, including his 7-month-old twin granddaughters.

He said leaving now gives Ohio State a unique opportunity to hire Alutto as interim president before he accepted another job offer. Late last month, the Columbus Board of Education met privately to discuss hiring Alutto to become acting superintendent, replacing Gene Harris at the end of the next month. The board was to vote on the matter tonight. Alutto, who was also on the call, wouldn't confirm today whether he had been offered the job.

Columbus school board member Mike Wiles said it's obvious to him that Alutto cannot do both jobs at once.

"I guess we punt," Wiles said, noting that Harris now leaves her post July 1. "I have no clue what board management, leadership, is thinking at this point. Now here we are three weeks out with no candidate."

>> Trustees, community leaders react

OSU Board Chairman Robert H. Schottenstein said during the call with reporters that Gee is loved by the university. He said Gee has instilled enormous optimism in its leaders to make Ohio State not only better but great.

Gee's total annual compensation is a little more than $2.1 million. In 2012, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education, he was the third highest-paid university leader in the nation. In prior years, he was the top earner. After a week of apologizing to people he offended with jokes bout Catholics, other universities and a rival athletic conference, Gee announced yesterday that he was backing out of giving Saturday's commencement speech at St. Francis DeSales, a Catholic high school on the North Side on Monday.

>> Photos: Gee's career

OSU spokeswoman Gayle Saunders said 'he really wants to ensure that the appropriate focus was kept on the young people who are graduating,' and presumably not him.

Last week Gee apologized to the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors and several others for making the hurtful remarks at a December meeting of the Ohio State Athletics Council.

During the meeting, he referred to 'those damn Catholics' and joked that priests at Notre Dame are holy on Sunday but 'holy hell' the rest of the week. He also suggested that the University of Louisville has poor academic integrity and that those in the Southeastern Conference can't read or write. He also took jabs at schools, such as the University of Cincinnati, that he said are unworthy of joining the Big Ten.

After Gee's December comments, Ohio State trustees met in private on January 31 and March 8 to discuss a remediation plan that directs Gee to scale back on his public speeches. The board also said the university should hire a 'coach' to help Gee do his job, an interesting proposition considering that Gee accepted an award from the American Council on Education in March for his years of dedication as a mentor and coach for several prospective future college leaders.

University officials say the board never took any public action at either of the meetings, but two days after the last one, two trustees sent Gee a letter outlining the plan. In a statement last week, OSU board chairman Robert H. Schottenstein said 'the board took swift action' and 'has met with President Gee at length to discuss the ramifications of his statements and develop a plan that addresses these missteps.'

But this past Monday, Sauders said 'the conversations between members of the board and President Gee, as well as specific details regarding the president's progress on his remediation plan, are private personnel matters.' She declined to say why the university believes the information is private.

Throughout his apologies, Gee has maintained that the comments were meant to break the tension and were a 'poor attempt at humor' that ended up having the opposite effect.

In a news release this afternoon, Gee said 'I recently returned from a vacation with my family, during which time I had a chance to consider the university's phenomenal achievements and the road that lies ahead for it.'

He said the university has a richness of new opportunities that most universities would envy.

'During my days away, I also spent some time in self-reflection. And after much deliberation, I have decided it is now time for me to turn over the reins of leadership to allow the seeds that we have planted to grow,' he said. 'It is also time for me to reenergize and refocus myself."

As the controversy surrounding Gee's comments began to unfold Thursday, Ohio Gov. John Kasich defended Gee and said, "This too shall pass, and Gordon will be there."

Five days later, Gee proved Kasich incorrect.

Gee has led more colleges ' West Virginia, the University of Colorado, Ohio State, Brown and Vanderbilt ' than any other university president in the United States.

Grumpy Cat inks movie deal, will star in family comedy feature - New York Daily News

Internet sensation Grumpy Cat opens up on 'Good Morning America.'

Web sensation Grumpy Cat has millions of adoring fans, a new book, and now, a movie deal.

The grouchy feline, real name Tardar Sauce, became a viral hit last September when owner Tabatha Bundesen and brother Bryan began posting photos of her on Reddit.

Since then, the sour-faced kitty won Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards, and signed on with talent manager Ben Lashes.

According to Deadline, Grumpy Cat sold a film option to a new "Garfield-like" family comedy. In the proposed flick, produced by the team behind 2011's "Jack and Jill," Grumpy Cat will be given the power of speech, presumably so she can spread all that snark around.

Daniel Petty/Denver Post via Getty ImagesTardar Sauce, better known by her viral Internet meme name 'Grumpy Cat,' has inked a Hollywood deal to star in a new 'Garfield-like' family comedy.

Lashes, who also represents YouTube sensation Keyboard Cat, has even more plans in the work for his rising star client.

Grumpy Cat will also lend his image to a line of bottled beverages, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Meanwhile, the dour creature is readying for the release of her first book, "Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book: Disgruntled Tips and Activities Designed to Put a Frown on Your Face," coming in October.

Tony Kanaan wins first Indy 500 - ESPN

Tony Kanaan Wins First Indianapolis 500Tony Kanaan Wins First Indianapolis 500NEXT VIDEO

INDIANAPOLIS -- Tony Kanaan had one more lap, one anticlimactic last lap under the yellow caution flag, to end 12 years of frustration in the Indianapolis 500.

He flipped up his visor to wipe away tears as the crowd roared its approval, and then in Victory Lane gave his bride of two months a long kiss and poured the celebratory winner's milk over his head.

Kanaan is Indy's hard-luck loser no more. He is its champion at last, fittingly with a dose of good luck for a change.

More From ESPN.com

For two laps, Tony Kanaan circled Indianapolis Motor Speedway under caution as most of 200,000 admirers thundered their approval. Kanaan, 2013 Indy 500 winner, had arrived, writes Ed Hinton. Story

Michael Andretti had three drivers within striking distance of Tony Kanaan in the final laps at Indy. "But," he acknowledges, "the racing gods had another idea," John Oreovicz writes. Story

"I have to say, the last lap was the longest lap of my life," Kanaan said.

It was one of Indy's most popular victories.

The losers were pleased with the outcome, evidenced by a scene similar to rivals lining up to congratulate Dale Earnhardt when he finally won the Daytona 500 on his 20th try. Dario Franchitti, whose crash brought out the race-ending caution, stood grinning by his crumpled car, two thumbs up as Kanaan passed under yellow.

"When I saw who was leading, it cheered me up a little bit," said Franchitti, last year's winner. "He's a very, very deserving winner."

The fans thought so, too, standing on their feet, screaming "TK! TK! TK!" as he and team owner Jimmy Vasser went by during the traditional victory lap. It felt magical to Kanaan, like he had given the crowd at Indianapolis Motor Speedway a gift.

"It means a lot to me because so many people, I could feel that they wanted me to win, and it's such a selfish thing to do because what are they getting from it?" Kanaan said. "I'm the one who gets the trophy. I believed that this win was more for people out there than for me.

"I wanted it all my life, but over the years I was kind of OK with the fact that I may never have the chance to win."

His chance came at the end of a history-making race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where Kanaan knew he had to pounce at the green flag for the final restart with three laps to go. He did, zipping inside leader Ryan Hunter-Reay to roar to the lead -- where he wanted to be in case another caution came out.

"I knew I had to get the lead on the restart because it could be a yellow, which happened to me plenty of times here, and it did," Kanaan said. "How funny is life? The yellow was my best friend."

Kanaan had his fair share of chances to win at Indy, but came up short time and time again. He was leading when the rain came in 2007, only to lose to Franchitti when the race resumed.

[+] Enlarge

Mark J. Rebilas/USA TODAY SportsOn a day with a record number of lead changes, Tony Kanaan finally won his first Indy 500.

In all, Kanaan went into Sunday's race with 221 laps led at Indy -- more than any non-winner except Michael Andretti and Rex Mays -- but his second-place finish to Buddy Rice in 2004 was the closest he had come to victory. He had a pair of third-place finishes, including last year, again to Franchitti.

"It's wonderful for him," said Mario Andretti, himself a victim of bad luck at Indy. "He's raced here long enough that he deserves it, no question."

The win for Kanaan and car owner Vasser was celebrated throughout the paddock. Alex Zanardi, who came from Italy to watch the race and gave Kanaan one of his 2012 London Paralympics medals as good luck, wept behind the pit wall as Kanaan took the checkered flag.

"I tell you I'm starting to think (the medal) really works," said Zanardi, who lost his legs in a 2001 crash in Germany. "It's a dream come true to see Tony win, to see Jimmy Vasser win, my dear friend. I'm so happy, I'm so happy."

It was Vasser who brought Zanardi's medal to Kanaan before the race, telling his driver that Zanardi wanted him to rub it for good luck.

"I actually cuddled with the thing," Kanaan admitted.

Vasser, caught in the middle as a driver during the political fighting in open-wheel racing, only got the chance to run Indy eight times in his career and not during his prime. He had goose-bumps on the celebratory lap with Kanaan as the crowd chanted the driver's name.

"I never won it as a driver. In fact, I couldn't win it as a driver," Vasser said, "so I had to hire the right guy to do it, get a baby Borg on my shelf," referring to the winner's Borg-Warner trophy.

It will be one adorned with Kanaan's likeness, and the driver joked he could finally "put my big nose on that trophy."

Fellow Brazilian Helio Castroneves, like Franchitti shooting for a record-tying fourth Indy win, was happy for his longtime friend.

"Finally he's able to win this race. He's so close so many times, but the good news is the good old boys are still able to run fast," Castroneves said.

Carlos Munoz, a 21-year-old rookie making his first IndyCar start, finished second and Hunter-Reay was third.

Tony Kanaan dived past Ryan Hunter-Reay on a restart with three laps to go, then coasted across the finish line under yellow to finally win the Indy 500.

"T.K. is such a fan favorite, absolutely, it's great to see him win it. If anybody is going to win it in the field, he's one of the few I'd like to see other than myself," Hunter-Reay said. "We were leading on that last restart, I knew I was a sitting duck, and I wasn't too bummed about it because I knew we had enough laps to get it going again and have a pass back. Maybe I would be third on the last lap, which is where I wanted to be."

Only there was no racing on the last lap. Franchitti brought out the caution seconds after Kanaan passed Hunter-Reay for the last of 68 lead changes -- exactly double last year's record.

On the final lap, the leaders came to the finish line all bunched up around Kanaan, saluting the IndyCar stalwart who had longed to add the final missing piece to his resume. That was about as slow as anyone had driven all day. The average speed was 187.433 mph, another Indy record.

Marco Andretti finished fourth, failing to win for the eighth time, and Justin Wilson was fifth in the highest-finishing Honda on a day that was dominated by Chevrolet. Castroneves was sixth. Pole-sitter Ed Carpenter led a race-high 37 laps and finished 10th.

For a time, it appeared the win would go to AJ Allmendinger, who led 23 laps in his Indy debut for Roger Penske.

Fired by Penske from his NASCAR ride last year after failing a NASCAR drug test, Penske gave him a second chance with this IndyCar opportunity. Seven years after leaving open-wheel racing, Allmendinger finally ran "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" and was leading when his seat belt came undone, forcing him to pit.

It put Allmendinger off the pit cycle, and he was forced to stop for gas twice far in advance of the rest of the field. It meant Allmendinger had to drive his way back to the front each time, and he finally sputtered out at seventh.

"I'll be honest, pretty special moment to be leading at Indy," he said. "My body kind of went numb, my mind was racing and I could feel my heart beating really fast, and that's a special moment I'll never forget."

A year after 34 lead changes and a frantic finish created what many considered the best Indy ever, IndyCar had its hands full trying to top itself.

This one might have done it, with the slicing and dicing at the front, over and over and over again. The 68 lead changes involved 14 drivers, and 28 of the 33 cars were running at the end. With 100 miles to go, 25 drivers were on the lead lap.

"It was a hell of a race. That's all I can say," Mario Andretti said. "This is riveting competition, that's all I can tell you. It's just amazing. The reliability of the cars is there. The product is there. It's unbelievable racing, the best I've seen in years."

These are nice thick leggings. Very thick. They also are a little small in the waist, but stretchy. For the price I'm happy to have these in my closet.I bought the Romeo and Juliet Couture Jeggings which I fell in love with. These are similar but are not as good. Also the detail in the picture is a little hard to make out. I thought they were going to be studs on the knees, but they are small circles( Not a deal breaker, just a note).

REally nice fit. Hugs your curves in all the right seats, and its good feature for the price. Love it!!!

NYDJ Women's Barbara Bootleg Corduroy Pant, Ganache, 18 User Reviews

NYDJ Women's Barbara Bootleg Corduroy Pant, Ganache, 18 User Reviews
These are super soft and comfortable! I kinda feel like I'm wearing sweatpants, but they have a flattering fit. The cords are small and they don't make that annoying 'whishing' sound when you walk and it's not obvious from a distance of more than a foot that you are even wearing cords. I can wear these easily into the office for work. As most of the NYD jeans, they do run long though...I actually bought the same pair in petite to wear with flats...I'm 5'6" and the petite actually is perfect for true flats.
- Denise

A little bit long, but true to the size. Great color, and the fabric is great (soft and very good quality).
- Adriana Lopez

I love the way these pants fit and feel. I couldn't tell from the on-line picture the texture of the pant fabric but it is fabulous and a great brown tone as well. As always NYDJ's fit a womans curves and their sizing is consistant. A great pant for Fall and Winter!
- Linda E. Sandeen "Linny"

I got these on sale. I like that they are sturdy with stretch and hold me in all the right places. One of the rhinestones however broke off after the 2nd wear. They are a little long, but otherwise the size is true to fit. I don't think they are worth $100 and glad I got them on sale for 60% off.
- Karen L. Hawkins

I love these jeans. They fit purrrrfect! I usually wear a 10, but I got a 10 and a 12. The 12 fit best so I returned the 10 for another pair in black a size 12. I just wish Amazon had free shipping on returns like Zappo, especially on clothes purchased on line.Thank youJulia Camarillo, CA
- Julie Rice

It must be a new cut on these jeans as I have worn them for 12 years and now this is the 2nd pair that does not fit me correctly in the thigh.
- JaneH

These look great on my 5 8'/185 frame. very comfortable and wear/wash well. Can be dressed up or casual. Very nice pants.
- anonymous "heather"

This is my first pair of NYDJ jeans, so I did not really know what to expect. These are great, and fit perfectly (I'm 5'6, usually wear a size 0 or 2, and ordered size 2 of these). They have a higher rise, which I really like, and the length is great too (some pants end up being rather short for me). The material is soft, and just a little stretchy to give it some extra comfort, especially around the waist.I ordered the black, which has a really deep, dark, "real" black color (unlike some other blacks). All in all, I can only recommend this product, probably will buy some more in the future.
- anon

I love NYDJ, and I needed some new ones for Winter (finally wore out a pair from several years ago!). Unfortunately, this pair has too much spandex in it, and it wrinkled horizontally all the way down the front of my leg. No way I would wear them like that. Makes me sad, sent them back.
- S. Olson

If you're buying NYDJ for the first time, know that they size on the larger size, both in length (good if you're tall), and waist sizing compared to other premium brands. High quality product, fits well, and isn't too low at the waist. No muffin top here.

Everett Golson no longer enrolled at Notre Dame - CBSSports.com (blog)

Everett Golson helped lead the 2012 Notre Dame team to the BCS National Championship Game. (USATSI)

Well, this could put a serious cramp in Notre Dame's attempt to get back to the BCS National Championship Game.

After reports surfaced on Saturday night, Notre Dame confirmed to the Chicago Tribune's Brian Hamilton that quarterback Everett Golson is no longer enrolled in the school. Since Notre Dame is a private school, it did not give a reason as to why Golson is no longer enrolled, but Hamilton also reported that it was an academic violation.

Bruce FeldmanGolson news latest jolt to ND

Hamilton also reports Notre Dame cannot comment on whether Golson can re-enroll at the school, but the "belief is he's out for the 2013 season."

Something that would be a huge blow for the Notre Dame offense.

Golson put together a solid season for the Irish as a redshirt freshman in 2012, throwing for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns while also rushing for 298 yards and another six touchdowns. He was a big reason why Notre Dame was able to go 12-0 last season and earn a chance to play Alabama for the national championship.

And as if Golson's absence wouldn't hurt the Irish enough, quarterback Gunner Kiel transferred to Cincinnati in April. Which would mean the starting quarterback job would likely come down to former starter Tommy Rees or Andrew Hendrix. The only other quarterback on scholarship at Notre Dame is incoming freshman Malik Zaire.

Rees has thrown for 4,413 yards and 34 touchdowns with 24 interceptions in three seasons with Notre Dame, but he does not possess the dual-threat capabilities that Golson has, as he has rushed for -71 yards with the Irish.

From Anthony to James, George's Life Doesn't Get Easier - New York Times

For six games over the last two weeks, Paul George of the Indiana Pacers had one of the tougher assignments in the N.B.A. playoffs. His job was to guard the Knicks' Carmelo Anthony one on one, to keep the offensive damage that Anthony can inflict to a minimum, to do whatever he had to do, within the rules, to wear down one of the league's top scorers.

In the end, George did his job. When Game 6 ended Saturday night in Indianapolis, with the Pacers advancing to the next round and the Knicks staggering back to New York, Anthony approached George at midcourt, congratulated him and patted him on the head, an affectionate acknowledgment of the toughness and poise the 23-year-old George had displayed for 40-plus minutes a game with so much riding on the outcome.

And the Pacers expressed their appreciation, too. As a reward for his determined efforts against Anthony, George will be asked to keep LeBron James, the league's most valuable player, at bay when the Pacers and the Heat begin the Eastern Conference finals on Wednesday night in Miami.

Anthony. James. At least the Pacers are not asking George to fly the team plane from Indianapolis to Miami. But what he will be asked to do against James, considered the most complete player in the N.B.A., is to keep him just a little farther from the basket, to keep him out of the lane and to lower the number of shots he takes from eight feet or less, where he has shot 68 percent (52 of 76) in the postseason.

'You've got to try to eliminate all the easy stuff,' George said when asked about defending first Anthony and now James, whose Heat had won eight of their nine postseason games going into Wednesday's matchup against the Pacers.

To do that, George will rely at least in part on his height. An unheralded first-round pick out of Fresno State in the 2010 draft, he is listed at 6 feet 8 inches, but is closer to 6-10. He uses that length to contest shots and his athleticism to stay close to whomever he is defending.

George, a swingman who plays shooting guard and small forward, has developed into a reliable scorer for the Pacers, averaging 17.4 points a game in the 2012-13 regular season. But defense is where he has made his mark.

'I think that's where I really like to stand out and be special because it's fun, the crowd loves it and I get energy off of it,' George said.

George did not think much about defense as a youngster when he was playing basketball in his hometown, Palmdale, Calif. He wanted to be a mix of Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady, which is to say he wanted to be an offensive player.

As a senior in high school, he was 6-7 and thin. Still, he wanted to play on the perimeter. But most of the college coaches who recruited him wanted to make him a power forward. In the end, he decided to play at Fresno State. When he showed up on campus, the coach, Steve Cleveland, gave him an ultimatum: if you want to play on the perimeter, you better learn how to defend smaller, quicker players.

'I said, 'Paul, one of the biggest challenges you're going to have is you're going to be defending guys who are 6-2, 6-3,'' said Cleveland, who is now a broadcast analyst.

'To his credit, he really started to develop his body. He got stronger, quicker and he had determination defensively,' said Cleveland, who added: ' He wanted to play the perimeter so badly that he was willing to do anything.'

Fresno State did not reach the N.C.A.A. tournament with George. It even had a losing record in George's sophomore season, his last at the university.

The Pacers, however, saw how George could fit their philosophy, especially on defense. So on June 24, 2010, they drafted him with the 10th overall pick. The initial reaction from Pacers fans was bewilderment, or worse. Pacers fans at Madison Square Garden for the draft booed when his selection was announced.

'It was like that amongst the whole city when I got here,' George said of his arrival in Indianapolis. 'Nobody really knew who I was.'

But three years later, the fans in Indiana love the player George has become.

As a rookie, he guarded the Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose in the first round of the playoffs. Last year, he tried his best to limit James and Dwyane Wade as the Pacers fell to Miami in the second round.

Not long after that series, which went six games, George joined the United States select team, a group of N.B.A. players who scrimmaged in Las Vegas against the N.B.A. veterans on the national team, helping prepare them for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

A Pacers assistant coach, Brian Shaw, who has mentored George the last two years, told him to watch James, Anthony and Bryant at those scrimmages and learn their tendencies.

Watch their intensity on offense. Watch their focus. Watch which spots on the floor they like to shoot from. To be successful on defense, Shaw said to George, he needed knowledge.

In the end, George guarded the N.B.A.'s biggest stars for six consecutive days. It was an invaluable experience, he said.

'Competing against those guys and being around them, you kind of understand their style of play,' George said.

Knicks Coach Mike Woodson, who was in Las Vegas at that time to watch Anthony and Tyson Chandler, said he kept noticing George's defense in practice.

'I was really impressed with him,' Woodson said.

Last Saturday, Woodson was watching again as George went up against Anthony. Although Anthony scored 35 points in the first 36 minutes, George never flinched. And in the fourth quarter, he prevailed.

Anthony scored only 4 points in that final quarter, and George also helped force him into several turnovers.

'You have to give him credit,' Anthony said afterward.

George is happy to accept it. But now comes James.
